The United States Army Forces in the Far East

July 2, 2011

USAFFE included the Philippine Army and the Department, and Far East Air Force. Its Headquarters was made on July 26, 1941 with Commander Major General MacArthur.

Creation of the command caused the subjection of the command the Philippine Department, as a service headquarters, since planning as well as tactical control were under USAFFE control. Major General MacArthur recommended Philippine Department Major General Grunert to be reassigned, because his services were no needed. So, Grunert came back to the USA and MacArthur was appointed as the commander.

On July 25, Stimson requested President Roosevelt the issue orders calling the military services of the Commonwealth in active service for the USA. Stimson explains that all practical steps must be taken to better the defensive force of the Philippine Islands.

The next day, President Roosevelt froze the Japanese assets in the USA and issued the orders to assimilate the Philippine Army forces. The same day, the War Department made the USAFFE command, with cognizance over the Philippine Department as well as the Commonwealth military forces. At the same time, Commander MacArthur was recalled to duty as the commander of USAFFE, from the position as a military advisor to, plus Field Marshall of, the Army of the Philippines.

Total Strength of USAFFE (30 November 1941) —31,095. Total Strength of US Army Troops and Philippines (July 31, 1941) —22,532. You can include the information in your buy assignment or school homework about the WWII.
